Tesla Announces 20% Price Reduction for Full Self-Driving (FSD) Software

Significant Price Reduction for Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) Software

Tesla has announced a substantial 20% price reduction for its Full Self-Driving (FSD) software, marking a significant shift in pricing strategy. It has just made Full Self-Driving (FSD) beta software more affordable, reducing the price by 20% to $12,000. With FSD, Tesla cars can now handle some driving tasks on their own, like cruising on highways, changing lanes, and handling parking duties. The FSD package also adds handy features like traffic light and stop sign control, ensuring your car can stop at red lights and stop signs without you needing to intervene.

New Pricing Sets FSD at $12,000 in North America

The revised pricing structure now places FSD at $12,000 in North America. This marks a return to the previous cost before Tesla raised the fee to $15,000 approximately one year ago.

Tesla vehicles come equipped with standard driver-assistance features known as "Autopilot." Additionally, the automaker offers an "Enhanced Autopilot" package for $6,000, providing extra functionalities such as advanced parking assistance and smartphone-controlled vehicle maneuvers.

 Understanding Full Self-Driving (FSD)

Tesla's FSD package encompasses all the features of "Enhanced Autopilot" and extends to the ability to detect and ideally respond to traffic lights and stop signs. It is essential to note that despite its name, Tesla vehicles with FSD are not self-driving or autonomous.

Tesla's FSD Recall and NHTSA Concerns

In February, Tesla recalled its FSD software and temporarily halted new installations. Concerns about FSD's safety were raised by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), as Tesla plans to license the technology to other automakers.

Competition in the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) Space

Several automakers, including GM and Ford, are introducing their ADAS features, offering hands-free driving capabilities exclusively on highways. However, drivers must remain attentive to the road while using these systems.

Tesla's decision to reduce the FSD software price reflects the evolving landscape of advanced driver assistance technologies and the competitive dynamics within the automotive industry.
