Geoffrey Hinton- one of the leading founders of Artificial intelligence and also known as' ‘GodFather of AI ‘’ stepped down from his position at Google. The news made headlines around the globe for the reasons he quit his job. It’s terrifying to hear from a well known Artificial intelligence enthusiast and the founder that the work he has done is leading to a terrifying end.
Believe it, this man is not happy at all because of his contribution. You can imagine how any normal person will feel after achieving so much and getting a huge success, but it’s the opposite in this case. Geoffrey Hinton seems worried about the future of technology. It’s a real threat to humanity.
He is far more concerned about the flood of information, fake videos, photos online that are overwhelmingly produced on the internet every single day. As a founder of AI techniques that led to popular ChatGPT, he deeply regrets certain aspects of his work. In a conversation with the New York Times, he revealed that he was proud of Google's advanced technology until last year. His views completely changed when Microsoft introduced chatbot into its Bing search engine recently. He considers it a potential risk to Google’s search business.
Meanwhile, Elon Musk has been very active in criticizing AI regulations and companies not following rules. On many occasions, he has said that AI is far more dangerous than weapons. However, despite making everyone aware about these dangers, these companies are involved in development of artificial intelligence as he announced his own company for AI as X.Company.
Whatever the reasons are behind quitting the job. Things are getting out of hand already. Immediate actions are needed to distinguish false from truth. We must stop generating fake photos , videos, and text as an individual to avoid the spread of false information. Recently , a viral image featuring Pope Francis wearing a Balenciaga puffer coat demonstrated the capabilities of these technologies. Also, there is a video circulating on the internet about AI voice over using real person voices and mimicking them.
Furthermore, Hinton expressed concerns about the potential future replacement of jobs by AI, including positions like paralegals, personal assistants, and various tedious tasks. He believes that even more jobs could be at risk in the future.
