Startup Humane Unveils Wearable Device, the AI Pin, in Collaboration with Qualcomm

Humane, the startup founded by ex-Apple designers Imran Chaudhri and Bethany Bongiorno, has provided details about its first product, the Humane AI Pin. The wearable gadget features a projected display and AI-powered capabilities.

Designed to be clipped to a breast pocket, the AI Pin utilizes a range of sensors for contextual and ambient computing interactions. It offers functionalities comparable to a smartphone, but with fewer gestures and voice commands required.

Users can access email and calendar summaries, make phone calls, translate languages, and use the built-in camera for object recognition. The device can also project an interactive interface onto nearby surfaces using a projector and depth sensor.

Humane announced a collaboration with Qualcomm to develop the AI Pin's internal hardware. The wearable will be powered by an undisclosed chip from Qualcomm's Snapdragon series. Humane plans to release more information about the device later this year.

The startup has also partnered with SK Networks and Microsoft for market deployment, with Microsoft providing cloud processing power and SK Networks handling distribution. Additionally, Humane is working with OpenAI to integrate its technology, collaborating with LG on R&D projects and smart home devices, and exploring opportunities with Volvo for the automotive industry.

Humane, headquartered in San Francisco, has raised $230 million in funding from notable investors such as Marc Benioff (Salesforce CEO), Kindred Ventures, LG Technology Ventures, Microsoft, and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. The company has assembled a team of over 200 employees, many of whom previously worked on Apple's iPhone touchscreen keyboard, industrial design, and infrastructure for Apple services.
